FRANKLIN — Most of the Cool Springs area was without water last night due to a ruptured valve at an undeveloped tract of land, an official at Mallory Water Control valves Valley Utility District said. Crews from the utility district have worked through the night to fix the leak and restore water pressure to hundreds of businesses, said Mallory Valley Field Manager Tim Ham. The water outage was reported at about 9:20 p.m. By 9:30 a.m. today, water service was restored to most Hydraulic control valves buildings, Ham said. The rupture occurred in a lot behind the Red Roof Inn, on Baker's Bridge Avenue. "Apparently when they were developing behind the Red Roof Inn, someone left a valve with a stub out and a rod that secured that line corroded and broke," Ham said. "That led to a water outage affecting all our customers in one shape or fashion." At least 2 million gallons of water were lost, Ham said, but no Forged Steel Valves flooding or damage was reported. "It couldn't have broken in a finer spot," Ham said. "It all ran into a drainage area along (Interstate) 65. Everything worked like it should." Crews are still working on the water line and expect to have water fully restored this morning.
